Those who have been drooling over the high priced Amazon Kindle e-reader should be happy to hear that beginning in late August Amazon will start offering and shipping two new low-cost Kindle models in response to the Barnes & Noble e-reader pricing war.
The upcoming Kindle 3.0 will be available for both $139.000 and $189.000, the former of which will be with Wi-Fi only capabilities and the latter with both Wi-Fi and 3G. The features will be the same and much slimmer than anything Barnes & Noble has to offer with its previously more affordable Nook.
Although it is likely that notebook devices such as Android tablets and the iPad will destroy the market for specialized e-readers much like mobile phones have destroyed the market for MP3 players, for now at least people should be able to get a better price on the devices they want.
As the pricing war continues to intensify, most people want to know how low the Kindle can go until it reaches zero margin- well for those who want to hold out its probably about $99.00 although it may take until next year to see that price tag
